Our staff has analyzed a sample of 2,329 burglaries that occurred in the month of March in the city of Houston to answer the above question. The information we uncovered is interesting, if not shocking.
Will a Burglar Strike at Day or Night?
From the data we analyzed, we discovered that the vast majority of burglaries take place during the day. In fact, 72 percent of all burglaries during the month of March in the city of Houston took place during day time hours. |

Most burglaries actually took place between the hours of 7 and 10 in the morning. About 40 percent of all burglaries of a home or apartment occurred in the morning hours. One Houston criminal attorney speculates as to why his clients choose these hours to commit a burglary.
“Most burglars will sit outside of a residence and wait until the occupants leave for work or school. They [burglars] wait until they are absolutely sure that no one is in the home,” says Laviage.

While our staff found that the morning was the most popular time block for burglars to strike, research showed that the single most popular hour for a burglary to occur is 6 p.m. 168 of the 2,329 burglaries that we analyzed occurred between 6 and 7 p.m. |

The Houston Police Department shed some light on this statistic stating that some burglars have chosen to follow residents home from work or school to commit a burglary.
While research has uncovered some interesting patterns, it is important to remember that a burglary can take place at any time. It is critical that you take the appropriate measures to safeguard your possessions and body.
