Application Fee For Checking Credit and Criminal History

Application Fee: A fee paid to an apartment complex or a landlord to pay for or offset the cost of checking a prospective tenant's credit, rental history, and criminal history.

Application fees usually range from $35 to $100. Sometimes the application fee is included in an administrative fee that some larger apartment complexes would charge for processing an application for a prospective tenant.

Unlike an application deposit, an application fee is usually non refundable if the apartment complex or landlord chooses to decline the tenant. While some landlords may attempt to check a prospective tenant's credit and criminal history themselves, most apartments pay a third party company to check tenant rental and criminal history.
